Kyiv, May 8, 2015. Russia-backed militants disregard Minsk agreements yet again by actively using heavy weapons and shelling the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 6pm yesterday, said Lieutenant Colonel Leonyd Matykhin, ATO Staff spokesman, at the press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In the Donetsk sector, militant groups mortared positions of the Ukrainian troops near Pisky, Hranitne, Opytne and Avdiivka from heavy weapons banned by the Minsk accords. Militants fired from automatic grenade launchers and small arms in the areas of Opytne and Putylivska mine.

“Shyrokyne stands as the major hotspot in the Mariupol sector; militants used the 122-mm artillery and 82-mm mortars. The enemy used same types of weapons when shelling our positions near Bohuslavske, Novhorodske, Krasny Pakhar and Shyroka Balka. They have also fired from a tank by Leninske,” Lt. Col. Matyukhin added.

According to ATO Staff spokesman, militant snipers have been active in the area of Stanytsia Luhanska and Shchastya.

Ukrainian servicemen spotted 22 flights of enemy UAVs in vicinity of Zholobok, Krymske, Mariupol, Shyrokyne, Mykhailyuky, Teple, Novobakhmutivka and Verkhnyotoretske.
