Kyiv, July 17, 2015. The Netherlands is leading the investigation of the Boeing 777 Malaysia Airlines crash and will provide the technical investigation’s conclusions, said Vice Prime Minister Hennadiy Zubko, head of the State Commission on Investigating the Causes of the Boeing 777 Crash during a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. The position of Ukrainian authorities over the year has been that the Flight МН17 was shot down by pro-Russian militants using a BUK multiple launch rocket system in Donetsk region on July 17, 2014.

Data from all the participants of the international investigation will be collected and the results will be published. “The criminal part of the investigation is over and we already have preliminary conclusions. The technical part is close to being finished and presently we have two reports from the Netherlands,” said Zubko. The reports were sent to the Ukrainian party to include their commentary.

An official request to the UN Security Council on creating a tribunal for investigating the causes of the MH17 crash was sent on July 10. This tribunal not only demands finding the organizer and weapon used, but above all, what country provided the weapon and supported the crime. “All the information must be public so that the whole chain from organizers to perpetrators is prosecuted,” said Zubko. “We expect to receive basic conclusions from the Netherlands and, most of all, we expect the UN Security Council to pass a resolution on establishing an international tribunal by ad hoc procedure,” added the official.

Ukrainian society, the government and the President of Ukraine take a tough stance on openness and transparency at present, most importantly on the issue of the international tribunal, which is to take place. “Only one country – the Russian Federation – spoke against such decision today. They oppose not only the tribunal, but the investigation conducted by the Dutch party,” said Zubko. In fact, Ukrainians did whatever was necessary – carrying out a search operation and securing conditions to conduct the investigation in the territory of Ukraine. “Ukraine passed the right of the investigation to the Dutch party, so that the results cannot be challenged,” said Zubko.
