Colonel Andriy Lysenko: Militants reinforce their leading elements in the Donetsk sector

Militants plan rotation of troops in Donetsk region, Mariupol is the “hottest spot”.  

Kyiv, April 29, 2016. According to the Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, militants are reinforcing their leading elements in the Donetsk sector. “Cannon battery ‘Rapira’, D-30 howitzers battery and ‘Msta-B’ howitzers section arrived to the Donetsk airport area. A militants’ squadron was transported from Donetsk towards Spartak. Two self-propelled artillery mounts, two armored personnel carriers and a truck with manpower came to Oleksandrivka. Mostly these are units of so-called “100th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 1st army corps of Donetsk People’s Republic,” informed spokesman of Presidential Administration on ATO-related issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Two trucks with personnel of so-called “11th separate motorized rifle regiment of the 1st army corps of Donetsk People’s Republic arrived at Yasynuvata. Moreover, militants are informed to be planning rotation of their units on the approaches to the Avdiivka industrial area. According to the intelligence, echelon with military equipment carrying three tanks, two ‘Grad’ multiple rocket launcher systems, two trucks, three covered wagons and four tanks with combustible and lubrication materials (200 tons) arrived at Debaltseve railway station.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses in combat yesterday; three troops were wounded in Shyrokyne. The biggest number of the ceasefire violations took place in the Mariupol sector: militants shelled ATO troops’ positions 19 times, using mortar launchers 10 times. “Occupants launched over 130 mortar shells at our positions during these attacks. Moreover, hostile snipers were active. Main flashpoints: Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, outskirts of the occupied Dokuchaevsk and Shyrokyne,” informed Col. Lysenko.

One, though very intense shelling took place in the Donetsk sector near ‘Putylivska’ coal mine, also known as ‘Butovka-Donetska’ coal mine. “Militants used mortar launchers of several calibers at once – 82-mm and 120-mm. Over 40 mortar shells were launched at our positions. The attack lasted over two hours,” informed the spokesman. Militants violated the armistice three times in the Luhansk sector – in Shchastia and Novotoshkivka (Bakhmut road).

A civilian from Hranitne tripped a mine yesterday night, suffering shell fragment wounds of arms and legs. He was admitted to Volnovakha town hospital. “We called upon citizens to obey personal safety rules during their presence at the demarcation line and pay attention to warning signs,” emphasized Col. Lysenko. The spokesman also informed that law enforcements found a mine on the road leading to Starohnativka, 15 km from Hranitne. Military engineers rendered the device safe.

Col. Lysenko also said that big batch of humanitarian aid from Rivne region volunteers has already arrived to the ATO zone. People were brought refrigerators, utensils, food and goods of prime necessity. “Volunteers visited Hirske and Krymske to help pupils from local schools. Moreover, several tons of goods of prime necessity were distributed among local people from Triokhizbenka, Lopaskyne, Lobacheve and Kriakivka settlements. Volunteers also gave a minibus for servicemen of civil – military cooperation teams,” informed Col. Lysenko.
