Ministry of Defense: Military Exercise “Sea Breeze” in Odesa region enters land stage

Kyiv, July 29, 2016. The land stage of the active phase of joint Ukrainian-American exercise “Sea Breeze – 2016” started in Odesa region. Joint Ukrainian-Moldavian-Georgian detachment and US Marine Corps launched from assault ships “Yuriy Olefirenko” and “Whidbey Island”. “About 70 Ukrainian marines launched an airborne assault in the area of prearranged strategic object,” informed the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Lieutenant Colonel Oleksiy Chernobai at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Ukrainian side organized air support of troops’ airborne assault. Vessels task teams from the countries participating in the exercise covered the troops from the sea. “Efforts of multinational contingent are directed at joint drilling of tactical skills and cooperation during airborne assault, countering adversary’s subversive reconnaissance groups, seizing and dominating objects in crisis region,” added the spokesman. Instructors of Ukrainian Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine got acquainted with basic stages of preparation and assault operations conducted by the US Marine Corps, their special tactical features and manpower management in combat. Exercise participants will march, take control over the key infrastructure premises and organize its defense, conduct training on checkpoints building, access control organization and gun practice at surface targets.
