Ministry of Defense: Intensity of militants’ attacks decreases
Kyiv, August 11, 2017.

Russia-backed militants attacked less intensely in the ATO zone yesterday. “Nevertheless, militants continue shelling Ukrainian positions with heavy weapons, namely mortars,” said Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. One Ukrainian serviceman was killed as a result of tripping a mine near Pisky. “Another soldier was wounded by the hostile sniper attack,” added Col. Lysenko.

In Luhansk sector, militants attacked Novotoshkivske with mortars and grenades around 14:00. Following this, the ceasefire held in the contact line. Russian proxies were active in some areas of the sector between 21:00 and 00:00. “Militants conducted a medium intensity mortar shelling in Krymske.  The enemy used small arms twice in Stanytsia Luhanska and employed grenade launchers in Stanytsia Luhanska and Novooleksandrivka. Ukrainian troops returned fire in response to the enemy’s provocations,” said the spokesman.

In Mariupol sector, all episodes of ceasefire violations took place in Pavlopil – Shyrokyne frontline. Militants conducted brief mortar attack at Shyrokyne at night. Attacks resumed in the morning and continued till 20:00. “Hostile sniper groups were shooting in Talakivka. At the same time, Russian proxies attacked Vodiane and Shyrokyne with grenade launchers,” added Col. Lysenko.

In Donetsk sector Russia-backed militants violated the ceasefire only once, attacking Ukrainian positions near Maiorsk with machine guns.
