ATO spokesman: Ukrainian Armed Forces rebuff another militant attack near Shyrokyne

Kyiv, February 25, 2015. The number of armed provocations instigated by pro-Russian militants has considerably decreased for a second day in a row. No firing incidents were noted at the Mariupol, Luhansk and Donetsk directions over the last night. “Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled yet another attempt of pro-Russian insurgents on the town of Shyrokyne at around 5 pm yesterday,” said Anatoliy Stelmakh, ATO Staff spokesman via Skype, at a briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Russia-backed insurgents twice shelled the town of Popasna not far from Debaltseve at around 23:00 last night. Overall, militants opened fire from the artillery and mortars 15 times, as well as 4 times from grenade launchers and small arms from 5am on February 24 till 5am, February 25.
