ATO Staff spokesman: Pro-Russian militants violate ceasefire 21 times

Kyiv, April 24, 2015. Russia-backed militants have violated ceasefire 21 times between 6 pm and midnight yesterday. The enemy fired at the Ukrainian military positions from the heavy artillery and tanks. “Militants used 120-mm mortars five times,” noted Lieutenant Colonel Serhiy Danylenko, ATO Staff spokesman, at the press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

According to the ATO Staff spokesman, militants have mortared the Ukrainian forces near Shyrokyne, Avdiivka, Zaitseve and Orlovske in Donetsk region. “Pro-Russian fighters also opened fire near Shyrokyne, firing from small arms and automatic grenade launchers, a 122-mm self-propelled artillery system and a tank,” noted Serhiy Danylenko.

In the Luhansk region, militant groups fired four times at Ukrainian positions near Shchastya from small arms, automatic grenade launchers and an anti-aircraft gun. “Residential areas did not come under fire,” added Lt. Col. Danylenko.

Lt. Col. Danylenko added that Ukrainian troops spotted three enemy UAVs from 8 pm until 9 pm: one near Mariupol and two in the Luhansk region.
