Ministry of Defense of Ukraine: Stepan Poltorak and Federika Mogherini signed Administrative agreement between the Ministry of Defense and European Defense Agency

Kyiv, December 8, 2015. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Federica Mogherini signed the Administrative agreement between the Ministry of Defense and European Defense Agency. The agreement creates legal ground for practical cooperation between Ukraine and the EU Member States in the defense sphere. For instance, it will provide a possibility to participate in the corresponding defense programs and projects of the Agency, as well as European explorations and technology initiatives, said the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Lieutenant Colonel Oleksiy Chornobai. The minister also held a meeting with the NATO Deputy Secretary-General Aleksandr Vershbow.

Lt. Col. Chornobai said that 126 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine wounded during the anti-terrorist operation are receiving treatment at military medical institutions. There are 37 troops more who are being treated abroad. “The department received over 240 million hryvnias for health care this year. Over 195 million of these will be used to pay for medical supplies and almost 12 million will be spent on medical equipment repair and purchase new equipment,” explained the spokesperson. According to Lt. Col. Chornobai, the Ministry of Defense received another 2.4 million hryvnias as charity support. Moreover, medical institutions and military units received charity support in specie to the sum over 195 million hryvnias. 1744 troops underwent rehabilitation since the beginning of 2015.
