Ministry of Defense: Militants’ shelling wound two women and damage three houses in Avdiivka

Militants use Minsk-proscribed weapons in all sectors, yet the majority of heavy weapons attacks take place in Donetsk sector. Ukrainian troops incur no lethal casualties, ten servicemen were wounded. Two civilian women were wounded by militants’ shelling in Avdiivka.

The situation remains tense in Donetsk sector: a total of 16 Russian proxies’ attacks were recorded yesterday, nine of them involved mortars. “Between 10:00 and 15:00 militants were firing mortars, grenade launchers and small arms upon Avdiivka and Shakhta Butovka positions. As a result, two civilian women were wounded and three houses were damaged in Avdiivka,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesperson on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. After 19:00, Russian proxies undertook four armed provocations in Zaitseve, Maiorsk, Novhorodske and Verkhniotoretske respectively. Moreover, they attacked Ukrainian positions at Svitlodarsk area with mortars, firing about 110 rounds over 24 hours. In Luhanske, militants were using 120-mm mortars until the dawn.

In Luhansk sector, Russia-backed militants conducted 17 ceasefire violations, five of them involved heavy weapons. The first armed provocation happened after 6:00 near Troitske, where militants attacked with grenade launchers. Krymske repeatedly came under militants’ fire from grenade launchers and mounted weapons of an infantry fighting vehicle; in the evening, they conducted also one artillery attack and one mortar attack there. In Novozvanivka the enemy undertook two armed provocations involving heavy weapons in the morning and one more in the evening.

In Mariupol sector 25 militants’ attacks were recorded, five of them involved mortars. Major hostilities took place in Maryinka district and in Pavlopil-Shyrokyne frontline. “Situation was the tensest in Pavlopil, where after 18:00 militants conducted a powerful attack, using mortars of various calibers and light weapons.  In addition, Russian proxies twice used mortars in Maryinka, once in Krasnohorivka and once in Hnutove,” elaborated the spokesman.

Ukrainian troops incurred no lethal casualties yesterday, yet ten servicemen were wounded. “Six servicemen were wounded near Luhanske, four more – in Pavlopil,” elaborated Col. Lysenko.
