Ministry of Defense: Militants attack residential areas in Donetsk sector

“Russia-backed militants made 27 precision attacks on Ukrainian troops’ positions yesterday. Ukrainian troops returned fire in 16 cases,” reported Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Donetsk sector, Russia-backed militants violated the ceasefire six times near Avdiivka and four times in Shyrokyne area, using, among other types of weapons, mortars of various calibers. “After 02:00 the enemy delivered an hour-long attack upon the Ukrainian positions near Starohnativka involving mortars, IFV mounted weapons and an anti-aircraft mount. In the morning, the enemy attacked the defenders of Shyrokyne with a tank and an anti-tank missile system,” Colonel Motuzyanyk elaborated. Moreover, Ukrainian positions near Hnutove and Bohdanivka came under hostile small arms fire. At about 08:00, militants mortared Vodiane village, including the inhabited parts. Ukrainian troops returned fire using grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms.

In Luhansk sector, Russia-backed militants committed 11 ceasefire violations. At about 05:00, Russian proxies attacked Ukrainian positions near Novoluhanske with 120-mm mortars, having launched 11 rounds. In addition, they twice used 82-mm mortars near Luhanske in the evening. “The enemy continued attacks on Ukrainian positions in Travneve, Lobacheve, Luhanske, Novooleksandrivka, and Stanytsia Luhanska areas using grenade launchers and small arms,” the ATO spokesman added. Ukrainian troops returned fire three times using weapons not proscribed under the Minsk agreements.

No Ukrainian serviceman was killed or wounded yesterday.
