Ministry of Defense: Russia-backed militants make 55 precision attacks

Over the past day, Russia-backed militants made 55 precision attacks on the Ukrainian troops in eastern Ukraine. Militants discharged eighteen 152-mm artillery rounds and fired about 100 rounds from 82-mm and 120-mm mortars. “Ukrainian troops returned fire 30 times,” reported Ministry of Defense spokesman Colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies delivered 20 precision attacks. Militants opened shelled Ukrainian troops’ positions with 82-mm and 120-mm mortars near Prychepylivka, twice in Zalizne area, three times near Maiorsk, and four times near Zaitseve. “Russia-backed militants were conducting harassing fire using grenade launchers and heavy machine guns near Zaitseve, Katerynivka, and Maiorsk. They also delivered eight attacks on the Ukrainian troops defending Novozvanivka. Between 23:00-23:30 militants fired eighteen 152-mm artillery rounds at Ukrainian troops in Sievierodonetsk area,” Colonel Hutsulyak added.

In Donetsk sector, Russia-backed militants attacked the Joint Forces’ positions 35 times. In the evening, militants shelled Avdiivka and Shakhta Butovka with 82-mm and 120-mm mortars. “Combat actions continued in Verkhniotoretske, Krasnohorivka, Opytne, Pisky, Pavlopil, Hnutove, Pishchevyk, Nevelske, Shyrokyne, and Kamianka areas with Russia-backed militants using grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms. Militants delivered multiple attacks in the following areas: Maryinka – 3, Shakhta Butovka – 3, Vodiane – 3, Avdiivka – 11,” Colonel Hutsulyak elaborated. After 22:00 a hostile sniper was recorded near Maryinka.

Unfortunately, three Ukrainian troops were wounded in action over the last day.

In the morning on May 11, Russia-backed militants have already made nine precision attacks on Ukrainian troops’ positions. “They were making provocative attacks involving heavy machine guns and small arms outside Maryinka and Shyrokyne, Novozvanivka (3) and Vodiane (3). Ukrainian troops returned fire five times using small arms,” the Ministry of Defense spokesperson added. As of 11:00 no losses were recorded.
