Kyiv, 25 March 2014 – Speaking at a press briefing at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center, famous entrepreneur Yevgeniy Utkin announced the launch of the Coordination Center for Information and Communication Technologies http://warroom.today/. According to Mr. Utkin, the work of the center is twofold: firstly, it addresses the urgent issues and establishes horizontal connections between those who need help and those who can provide it, and secondly, it works to achieve med-term objectives of using Maidan’s energy to reset the relations between business and government.

Yevgeniy Utkin said that the information and communication technology sector is the most competitive, and those who are involved in it possess a powerful intellectual capital which needs to be used to build a new Ukraine.

Commenting on the launch of the center, Head of the Ukrainian Internet Association, Tatyana Popova said that today, March 25, a decision was made at the board meeting to allocate UAH 100,000 to the Defense Ministry for the purchase of the necessary equipment and materials. “We want to create a foundation which will help the government implement reforms within the next one or two years.”

Ellina Shnurko-Tabakova, editor, blogger and public activist, also underlined that Maidan had become a tremendous event with great energy. “However, Maidan was not so big in size, and since there is Crimea and the southeastern region, we decided that we should make our work as effective as possible,” said Ms. Shnurko. According to the founders of the center, a website has already been set up (available at www.warroom.today) to help automate the work. “It is important that high standard is maintained. We work with approximately 1000 companies that provide contacts and also with several expert teams that offer ingenious solutions through brainstorming,” said Ellina Shnurko, “Another one of our targets is the reset. Information technology helps ensure the transparency of many processes and mechanisms that will not just reset the system but will allow it to return to its previous level. In just two years Ukraine can become a completely different country.”
