Colonel Andriy Lysenko: Militants use Grad multiple rocket launcher system firing 15 missiles

One flight of militants’ unmanned aerial vehicle is observed, active hostilities involving heavy armor continue in Krasnohorivka-Mariinka and Pavlopil-Shyrokyne frontline areas. 

Kyiv, October 22, 2016. Militants used Grad multiple rocket launcher system in the Luhansk sector launching 15 missile projectiles, informed the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on ATO related issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. “The attack was conducted from Stakhanov direction. Ukrainian troops defended the positions under militants’ mortar and artillery attack near Novozvanivka,” informed Col. Lysenko. Moreover, Russia-backed militant groups were using small weapons almost along the entire frontline -in Stanytsia Luhanska, Zhovte, Krymskeand Popasna district. In total, 12 militants’ attacks took place in the Luhansk sector yesterday; three of them involved use of heavy armor.

Militants violated the ceasefire in Luhanske, Verkniotoretske and Avdiivka in the Donetsk sector. Most attacks involved use of heave armor – mortar launchers. “Fire density was extremely high – in total, almost 150 mortar shells were fired,” emphasized the spokesman. In total, nine militants’ attacks took place in the Donetsk sector yesterday, and seven involved use of heavy armor.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses in combat yesterday, and three troops were wounded.

The situation remained unchanged in the Mariupol sector. Active hostilities continue in Krasnohorivka-Mariinka and Pavlopil-Shyrokyne frontline areas. Russia-backed militants use heavy armor – mortar launchers and cannons. “Part of Krasnohorivka was cut off the electricity supply because of militants’ attack yesterday. A building of closed transformer station was damaged,” added Col. Lysenko. The armistice held in other areas. In total, 18 militants’ attacks happened in the Mariupol sector, and six of them involved use of heavy armor. Moreover, flight of militants’ unmanned aerial vehicle was observed in the ATO zone yesterday.

According to the spokesman, Ukrainian servicemen seized two 82-mm mines with mechanical fuse, an explosive device with trip wire with radio-controlled fuse and 30-mm artillery missiles during engineer reconnaissance in Yasynuvata district.
