Winners of the second national competition on E-investigations announced

The competition gather 40 investigations from across Ukraine thus encouraged more investigation based on the open data on regional level.

Forty journalistic investigations participated in the second national competition on E-investigations using the “E-data” portal. The jury chose three winners, another three – readers of Texty.org.ua. “E-data” is not just a portal for publishing data; it is a powerful tool to be used in all areas. Investigations based on portal data can lead to initiation of criminal proceedings,” noted Oksana Makarova, Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine, at a briefing held at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

 

Oleksiy Nabozhnyak, journalist, senior lecturer of Mohyla School of Journalism, StopFake trainer, jury, stressed that the best works were from the regions. “Regional journalism became a discovery. They dig deeper than journalists in the capital,” he considers. Roman Kulchynskyi, senior editor of online edition Texty.org.ua, jury, believes that 40 works is not enough. “E-data” is the Klondike of quality materials, there should be hundreds of such works,” he said.

According to the jury’s voting, the winners were: Olga Fomenko for “Recreational arithmetic of Gorzelenstroy”, Elena Zigulska for “Business for three: Defense Ministry gives money, Kharkiv Ltd. takes it and Odessa colony does the job” and Valentin Krasnopyorov for “Time -” Vadim Lyakhov’s expensive PR at the expense of Slovyansk taxpayers”. Oleksandr Peresolyak, “Prosecutor’s daughter-in-law Yanka turned a millionaire”, Alyona Korolyova, “Good for money or expensive PR of Sumy officials” and Nadiya Hrabovska, “My Cherkasy region” received prizes of Audience Choice.
