Ministry of Defense: One Ukrainian soldier KIA, two wounded

One Ukrainian soldier was killed in action in ATO zone yesterday and two were wounded. “Russia-backed militants conducted as much as 61 ceasefire violations, including 9 with heavy weapons, yet Ukrainian Armed Forces sustained all these losses due to the enemy shelling of Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector militants focused combat activity in Popasna district where they opened fire at Ukrainian positions seven times. They attacked ATO troops with small arms before the dawn once, all the other attacks took place in the afternoon. “One enemy sniper was recorded in Troitske after the sunset. After 22:00 militants fired three mortar rounds at Ukrainian positions in Novooleksandrivka. All other parts of frontline were peaceful, except for Krymske, where Russian proxies attacked ATO troops with APC weapons for half an hour after midnight,” said Col. Motuzyanyk.

In Donetsk sector militants were active in all key areas: at Svitlodarsk area, in Zaitseve, near Donetsk airport. Avdiivka is the hottest flashpoint, Russian proxies were shelling Ukrainian strongholds virtually non-stop here. One enemy sniper was recorded in Troitske after the sunset. Miilitants fired 20 mortar rounds at Shakhta Butovka position. “In total, 18 militants’ attacks took place in Donetsk sector yesterday, and three mortar attacks were recorded in Avdiivka area,” summarized the spokesman.

In Mariupol sector militants violated the ceasefire mostly at Pavlopil-Shyrokyne frontline. Russian proxies continue using armored weapons all day long, use machine guns, grenade launchers and periodically mortars. “Militants fired about 30 mortar rounds at Hnutove and Vodiane yesterday. They attacked Maryinka with light weapons during the day and conducted two brief mortar shellings in the evening. The ceasefire held near Dokuhaevsk the entire day,” said Col. Motuzyanyk. In total, militants conducted 35 attacks in Mariupol sector yesterday, and used mortars five times.
