Ministry of Defense: Militants shell residential quarters in Krasnohorivka, damage 29 houses and wound three civilians

In Mariupol sector main hostilities took place in Krasnohorivka.  Pro-Russian militants used units deployed in Donetsk and vicinities.  “The enemy opened fire at residential quarters around 06:30 using 82-mm and 120-mm mortars, tanks and other armor, as well as Grad-P system. The attack continued around 90 minutes, militants fired dozens of rounds. Ukrainian troops responded with fire,” informed Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. The intense attack damaged 29 buildings in Krasnohorivka, including a hospital and a school.  According to the spokesman, most buildings were totally destroyed. Several fires took place, they were promptly extinguished. Three civilians sustained injuries, infrastructure (water and sewage pipeline) was heavily damaged. Water supply was resumed, police is patrolling the town and providing assistance to local inhabitants. Militants shelled this area once again after the sunset, firing 20 mortar rounds. “Hostile provocations continue in Pavlopil-Shyrokyne frontline, as well as in Maryinka and the north of Volnovakha district. Russian proxies used mortars several times. In total, 20 enemy attacks took place in Mariupol sector, six of them involved heavy weapons,” added Col. Lysenko.

In Luhansk sector Krymske was the main flashpoint.  Militants fired about 40 mortar rounds in an intense two-hour attack there, simultaneously using light weapons. The situation was restless in Katerynivka, where Russian proxies used mortars and opened sniper’s fire. Militants violate the ceasefire most often in Popasna district.  They opened fire from small weapons three times in Stanytsia Luhanska district.  In total, 10 hostile attacks took place in this sector yesterday.

In Donetsk sector, pro-Russian militants used mortars and tanks to attack Ukrainian positions in Svitlodarsk area just after midnight. “The attack lasted about two hours, militants fired 36 rounds.  Then they started using light weapons. These provocations ended before the dawn. The ceasefire held after that,” said Col. Lysenko. The situation was restless around Avdiivka.  At dawn militants shelled Shakhta Butovka positions with 122-mm cannons deployed in Yasynuvata. In Avdiivka hostilities started after 10:30 and lasted all day long. At sunset militants started using mortars and cannons again. The attacks were quite lengthy, but militants rarely used heavy weapons. They fired from three sides simultaneously. Moreover, the enemy conducted two attacks in Zaitseve and Pisky. In total, militants attacked 18 times yesterday, and used heavy weapons nine times.

No Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action yesterday, but seven were wounded.

Last week the confirmed losses of the enemy included 16 militants killed in action and 27 wounded, plus a destroyed Ural truck.
