Ministry of Defense: Militants attack Mariupol sector the most

The majority of all attacks in ATO zone occured in Mariupol sector. Militants attacked 42 times yesterday, and used mortars eight times. Russian proxies violated the ceasefire virtually on the entire frontline. The situation was the most difficult in the south, namely Vodiane-Lebedynske-Shyrokyne frontline, where militants conducted armed provocations using light weapons since the beginning of the day till late night. Moreover, Russian proxies shot from mortars seven times,” informed Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO- related issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media CenterOne hostile mortar attack took place in Maryinka. Residental quarters came under fire, which resulted in two grave civilian casualties. The man and the woman were taken to the hospital in Kurakhove.

In Donetsk sector the most intense hostilities continue in the vicinity of Avdiivka. One serviceman was wounded there in a militants’ shelling. “Militants were using mortars sporadically, late in the afternoon. Moreover, hostile snipers were active in the industrial area and near Kamianka,” said Col. Lysenko. Militants attacked three times in Svitlodarsk area, near Luhanske and in Verkhniotoretske using mortars. A tank shelled Ukrainian strongholds in Luhanske from southeastern direction. 

In Luhansk sector the situation became less tense at the Bakhmut road. Militants briefly attacked with mortars twice near Novotoshkivske after the sunset. The ceasefire fully held in Krymske-Zholobok frontline, at the same time, militants fired about 40 mortar shells at Ukrainian positions in Popasna district. “They fired from APC late at night near Novozvanivka. Russian proxies instigated three armed provocations in Stanytsia Luhanska area,” added Col. Lysenko. No Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action yesterday, and one soldier was wounded in a shelling in Avdiivka.
