Ministry of Defense: Russia-backed militants keep using Minsk-proscribed weapons

The situation in ATO zone remained tense yesterday. “The enemy conducted 17 attacks at Ukrainian Armed Forces’ positions along the entire frontline. In most cases, Ukrainian troops responded with adequate fire,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, militants used mortars several times. “Around 19:00 the enemy opened mortared our stronghold near Troitske firing a total of eight rounds. After 23:00, militants fired four 82-mm mortar rounds at our positions near Krymske,” said Col. Lysenko. Moreover, militants attacked Krymske and Popasna with grenade launchers and small arms in the evening.

In Donetsk sector, militants violated the ceasefire seven times. They attacked Ukrainian position near Luhanske using IFV mounted weapons and automatic grenade launchers after midnight. Russian proxies conducted two more attacks using machine guns and mounted grenade launchers. “Moreover, militants attacked our strongholds near Avdiivka, Kamianka, and Maiorsk four times using mounted grenade launchers and small arms,” added the spokesman. Ukrainian troops responded with fire to all attacks.

In Mariupol sector, militants conducted four aimed attacks. They used heavy machine guns and small arms twice near Talakivka. Russian proxies attacked Ukrainian troops’ stronghold near Vodiane after 15:00, and were attacking Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Starohnativka for oven an hour in the evening, using various grenade launchers and small arms.

As a result of hostilities, one Ukrainian soldier was killed in action near Maryinka. Two more sustained wounds and injuries near Maryinka and Krymske.
