Ministry of Defense: militants conduct six aimed attacks in eastern Ukraine

Yesterday in the ATO area, militants conducted six aimed attacks in eastern Ukraine. They fired twenty-seven 120- and 82-mm mortar rounds, reported colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak, Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO, at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Donetsk sector, in Prymorksiy area, Russian proxies conducted five aimed attacks at Ukrainian positions. “Militants fired three times at Ukrainian troops deployed at Vodyane. During the day, fifteen 122-mm mortar rounds were recorded. That was followed with numerous shelling from infantry fighting vehicle, grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns, and other small arms. Militants fired 12 times with 82-mm mortars at the defenders of Shyrokino, accompanied by shelling with grenade launchers”, Colonel Hutsulyak elaborated. One Ukrainian soldier was injured near Vodyane.

For eight hours, Russian proxies had been firing with grenade launchers of various systems, large-caliber machine guns, and other infantry weapons at Ukrainian troops at Novoselivka Druha. During this shelling, four Ukrainian soldiers were traumatized. “Our troops returned fire with grenade launchers and small arms”, – added Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO.

In Luhansk sector, one aimed attack was recorded. At 17:00, militants fired with grenade launchers of various systems at Luhanske.

Today, January 21, Ukraine commemorates its heroes known as Kyborhy (Cyborgs). Three years ago they finally retreated from Donetsk airport after 242 days of holding strategic defense positions of the Ukrainian army. The last units left the airport building only when it was ruined and overwhelmed by Russian proxies.
