Urgent announcement regarding explosions in Donetsk and the situation in Debaltseve

Kyiv, January 30, 2015 – Intensive fighting between the Ukrainian Armed Forces and pro-Russian militants continues in Vuhlehirsk, Donetsk region. Russian regular troops and pro-Russian militants continue to shell and attack ATO block posts. Ukrainian Armed Forces engage in counter-battery attacks in order to eliminate the enemy artillery. Enemy forces continue their manoeuvres, making it more difficult to launch a decisive strike.

Ukrainian Armed Forces controls Debaltseve but frequently finds themselves under fire of the pro-Russian militants. Information about two Ukrainian block posts in Luhanske checkpoint near Debaltseve has been disproved.

Ukraine Military Command urges everyone to be responsible and limit spreading information about the current situation in the area Vuhlehirsk. This is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of our soldiers.

Several civilians have been killed due to the series of explosions in Donetsk today. The number of people killed is yet to be confirmed; several dozens got wounded. We are currently looking forward to get more updated information about the incident.

According to the information spread via pro-Russian media, militants detained three Russian citizens who were firing from the self-propelled mortar yesterday. Ukrainian artillery never fired on the city’s residential areas. Ukrainian Armed Forces target exclusively pro-Russian militant groups and their positions outside of towns.

Presumably, today’s attack was a provocation aimed to ruin efforts for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and prevent the forthcoming trilateral Contact Group meeting.
