Attacks in ATO zone are mostly concentrated in Donetsk sector – ATO Staff

Kyiv, November 24, 2015. Over the past four days Russia-backed militants in the ATO zone kept firing upon Ukrainian positions mostly in the Donetsk sector. They were provocatively firing from grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns and small arms upon Verkhnyotoretske, Troyitske, Pisky, Maryinka, Pervomaysk and Novhorodske. They later fired upon Maryinka and Krasnohorivka from mortars, said ATO Staff spokesperson Captain Leonyd Matykhin at a press briefing via Skype at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

He reported that in the Artemivsk sector militants had fired upon Zaitseve, Mayorsk, Lozove, Luhanske, Shchastia as well as upon Novotoshkivske, Orikhove and Stanytsia Luhanska in the Luhansk sector. Militants were precisely targeting Troyitske from mounted automatic grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns and small arms. In the Mariupol sector militants very firing from grenade launchers and small arms upon Shyrokyne, Chermalyk and Bohdanivka. “Militants were precisely firing upon Ukrainian positions near Opytne from the weapons mounted on an infantry fighting vehicle, large-caliber machine guns and small arms; fired from 82-mm mortars upon Sukhodol area in the Luhansk sector. Militants were also firing upon Pisky from sniper rifles,” added Captain Matyukhin.

The ATO spokesperson also said that military sappers continue de-mining works clearing the territories and destroying explosives. “Yesterday alone 457 explosive devices were discovered and neutralized. Works also continue in Svatove. A total of 28433 explosive devices have been destroyed and 66,7 hectares of territory have been cleared,” he explained.
