Avdiivka and Shyrokyne are hottest spots in ATO. Militants actively use mortars – Colonel Lysenko

 

Kyiv, April 6, 2016. Yesterday through the day Avdiivka remained the epicenter of combat actions in the Donetsk sector of ATO zone. About a half of all militant attacks in the sector were made there. Militant group members are actively using mortars. Turbulent situation was also observed in Luhanske, Zaitseve and at the Donetsk airport yesterday. “In Pisky a civilian hit an explosive device. There were a total of 55 hostile attacks in the Donetsk sector over the last day. Eighteen attacks were made with mortars, occupants launched around 100 mines in course of these attacks,” said Colonel Andriy Lysenko, spokesman of Presidential Administration for ATO related issues at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

He also noted that the situation escalated in the Mariupol sector. Shyrokyne was a hot spot yesterday, where a series of mortar attacks was registered. In Maryinka militant sniper was firing twice. A mortar attack was registered in Krasnohorivka, in Novotroyitske militants used an infantry fighting vehicle. “A total of 21 attacks took place in the Mariupol sector, six of them were made with the use of mortars,” added the ATO spokesman. Meanwhile it was quiet in the Luhansk sector yesterday. Colonel Lysenko reported that there were no lethal casualties over the last day, four Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action.

 

Ukraine’s Security Service caught red-handed a subversive who was planning to blow up railway tracks near Izyum station. “It was discovered that the detained was recruited by the militant group “Ministry of security of ‘DPR” in January 2016. The subversive used a large-caliber artillery shell and 2 kg of plastic explosive to make the explosive device. Occupants promised him generous payment for it – USD 15 thousand,” said Colonel Lysenko.
