Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk : Militants assail Ukrainian stronghold in Yasynuvata district

Kyiv, May 29, 2016.”Another flashpoint appeared on the front line yesterday – Novoselivka Druha village in Yasynuvata district, Donetsk region southeast of Avdiivka. Militants made an attempt to assail our stronghold,” informed spokesman of the Presidential Administration on ATO related issues Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.
Five Ukrainian troops died in the ATO zone yesterday and four were wounded.

Militants launched over 230 mortar shells and over 150 artillery projectiles at Ukrainian positions in the Donetsk sector yesterday. They were firing from 122-mm howitzers. Occupants’ artillery attacks aimed at our positions in Avdiivka and Opytne, and mortar launchers were used along the entire front line,” elaborated Col. Motuzyanyk. Ukrainian troops defeated an attack of militants’ subversive reconnaissance group yesterday night in Novoselivka Druha. The fight lasted about 30 minutes. “Apart from the abovementioned inhabited localities, the situation was extremely restless in Luhanske and at Putylivska coal mine position. On the opposite, the armistice absolutely held in Zaitseve, Mayorsk and the adjacent areas,” said the spokesman. A total of 12 attacks took place in the Donetsk sector in the past 24 hours, almost all of them involved use of heavy armor. Moreover, one firefight took place.
Five militants’ attacks took place in the Luhansk sector – in Stanytsia Luhanska and Popasna district. “The second floor of a residential building burned in Stanytsia and premises of regional state administration was damaged,” added the spokesman.
Intensity of militants’ fire considerably decreased in the Mariupol sector. Russia – backed militant groups continue shelling along the entire front line from Krasnohorivka to Shyrokyne. Militants shelled ATO troops’ positions from mortar launchers two times near Novotroitske.
“In total, 12 hostile attacks took place in the Mariupol sector yesterday. ATO troops responded with fire whenever necessary,” said Col. Motuzyanyk.
