Colonel Andriy Lysenko: Special units of Ukrainian Armed Forces detain a militant involved with deaths of 10 Ukrainian troops

Kyiv, July 3, 2016. Special units of Ukrainian Armed Forces jointly with the police detained a militant who was involved with deaths of Ukrainian troops. “The detained gained trust of our troops and directed the enemy using armor at Ukrainian stronghold. As result of losing a fight, 10 troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine died and five were captured. These tragic events took place on July 29, 2014 near Latysheve settlement, Shakhtarsk district in Donetsk region. The separatist was arrested for two months, the investigation is underway,” informed spokesman of the Presidential Administration on ATO related issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses in the ATO zone yesterday, six troops were wounded. The armistice held in the Luhansk sector, no provocations instigated by militants were registered.
Half of attacks in the Donetsk sector took place in the vicinity of Avdiivka. Militants used grenade launchers of various types, small arms and machine guns. Moreover, they launched 18 mortar shells near Opytne and 30 shells more to the north, near Novoselivka Druha. Intense firefight continues near Luhanske settlement. Militants are using heavy armor. “Enemies launched 36 projectiles from 122-mm cannons and 119 mortar shells at Ukrainian positions. Moreover, the situation was restless in Horlivka agglomerate where militants are actively using armor: shooting from armored personnel carriers (APC) was registered near Novhorodske, Zaitseve and Novoselivka. Moreover, Russian proxies were shooting from grenade launchers and small arms in the above mentioned areas,” informed the spokesman. In total, 31 militants’ attack took place in the Donetsk sector yesterday, 10 of these involved use of heavy armor.
Fighting continues along the entire frontline in the Mariupol sector. Russian mercenaries used 82-mm and 122-mm mortar launchers in this area the most frequently. “Mortar shelling took place near Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Talakivka, Starohnativka and Berezove. In total, enemies launched 98 mortar shells. The majority of these attacks involved launching mortar shells in series from one to eight,” said Col. Lysenko. Militants were shooting from APC near Krasnohorivka and Mariinka, and launched three artillery shells near Vodiane. Moreover, Russian mercenaries used grenade launchers, large machine guns and small arms to shoot at these positions and in the vicinity of Shyrokyne and Novohryhorivka. Militants’ snipers were active near Shyrokyne and Novotroitske. In total, 38 attacks took place in the Mariupol sector, 13 of them involved use of heavy armor. According to the military intelligence, six flights of militants’ unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) were registered in the ATO zone. Another tactical UAV was launched from Russian territory. “Russia continues providing military aid to militants. For instance, seven tanks with combustible and lubrication materials arrived at Rovenky, Luhansk region,” added the spokesman.
Officers of Security Service of Ukraine and police found a weapons cache containing arms and ammunition near Kharkivring road, in the vicinity of Mala Rohan village. Field investigators seized five RPG-26 grenade launchers, 44 hand grenades, three grenades for under barrel grenade launcher, 11 magazines for Kalashnikov assault rifle and machine gun and almost 4 thousand cartridges of various calibers. According to the recent intelligence, the weapons were brought to Ukraine from the Russian Federation to arms subversive groups which were supposed to commit terrorist acts. Law enforcement authorities found more weapons and ammunition in Shchastia, Luhansk region. Two Maksim machine guns, two Kalashnikov assault rifles, MP-38/40 submachine gun, two Walter handguns, Mauser pistol, Beretta handgun, four revolver guns, two short rifles, seven shot guns, cartridges and smoke bombs. “Moreover, law enforcement officers seized three sets of car number plates, one of them for a military vehicle. All these worldly possessions belonged to a high-level official of Yanukovych’s times,” added Col. Lysenko.
