Col. Lysenko: Militants launch about 200 shells and mines at Ukrainian positions in Shyrokyne

Kyiv, October 11, 2016. The most difficult situation in Mariupol sector is in Shyrokyne. “The adversary launched about 200 mines and shells at Ukrainian Armed Forces,” reported Col. Andriy Lysenko, Ministry of Defense spokesperson on ATO related issues, at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. According to Col. Lysenko, there were two shelling sessions – in the morning and after sunset lasting 3 hours each. A similar situation is observed in Talakivka and Maryinka where the number of armed incidents is lower, but heavy weapons, including 152 mm guns and armored vehicles are also used.

Militants moved additional forces – armored vehicles, mortars and guns – to the boundary Kominternove – Sakhanka – Bezimenne and began their massive use. “In particular, the adversary organized a powerful mortar attack near Vodiane before dawn. Over a few hours there was an armed clash on those bounds, which ended successfully for the ATO forces,” said the spokesperson. Over the past day, there were 27 militants’ attacks in Mariupol sector, 14 of which – with heavy weapons, and also one armed clash.

Over the last day, two Ukrainian servicemen were killed in action, eight were wounded and three were contused. The adversary loss that has been confirmed – one wounded from the so-called “9th Regiment”.

In Luhansk sector, fighting was only in Popasna district, in the front section Popasna – Novooleksandrivka – Novozvanivka. Militants violated ceasefire mostly in the night-time. “The invaders actively use heavy weapons – mortars and guns. They shoot about five shells and immediately depart. Russian artillery batteries are deployed on the bounds Pervomaysk – Kalynove, that is, close to the contact line. Shelling was the most intense between 10-11pm. Then gunmen began firing 122-mm guns at several strong points at a time,” said Col. Lysenko. Totally, militants carried out 17 attacks in Luhansk sector over the past day, 7 of which – with heavy weapons. “Yesterday we recorded 3 militants reconnaissance UAVs in Luhansk and Mariupol sectors,” added the MoD spokesperson on ATO related issues.

In Donetsk sector, the adversary conducted the least number of provocations yesterday, violating ceasefire in Zaitseve and Avdiyivka. “The fighting took place between 6 – 10pm. In addition to light weapons, the adversary actively applied mortars, firing at Ukrainian positions for over 30 minutes,” noted Col. Lysenko. Ukrainian servicemen opened a return fire. On other fronts, it was quiet. Totally, over the past day militants carried out three attacks, two of which – with heavy weapons in Donetsk sector.
