Ministry of Defense: Militants shoot Butovka coal mine position with tank weapons

Permanent structures and steel frameworks at Butovka coal mine position has been destroyed as a result of militants’ intense tank fire, reported the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on ATO related issues Colonel Andriy Lysenko during a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. “Adversaries shoot from the tanks located in the adjacent Spartak village almost every day. Moreover, militants were conducting active fire in the vicinity of the Svitlodarsk bulge, in Horlivka perimeter and near Donetsk airport yesterday. The enemy lunched about 100 mortar shells at the position near Svitlodarsk bulge during the day. Russian proxies used mostly light weapons around Horlivka. A hostile tank was shooting in Vodiane,” said Col. Lysenko. In total, militants conducted 37 attacks in the Donetsk sector yesterday, using heavy weapons 17 times.

Avdiivka and its outskirts remain the epicenter of militants’ most intense attacks. Russian proxies started shooting at 6 a.m. there and continued till 11 p.m. with some breaks. They were shooting almost 12 hours in a row in this area. Militants used machine guns of various calibers, tanks and light weapons. “In total, they launched 135 mortar shells and 50 tank projectiles at Avdiivka,” summarized the spokesman.

One serviceman was wounded in combat yesterday. “It happened in Lobacheve during a hostile attack,” said Col. Lysenko.

It was comparatively calm in the Luhansk sector during the day. Russia-backed militant groups used no heavy armor. They were shooting from small weapons in Lobacheve. Militants were shelling Stanytsia Luhanska and the vicinities using grenade launchers and small weapons late in the afternoon. Insurgents performed three armed provocations near Novooleksandrivka from 9 p.m. till midnight. In total, six militants’ shooting attacks took place in the Luhansk sector yesterday.

In the Mariupol sector militants were shooting from small weapons in the coastal areas during the entire night. Mortar attacks started at 7 a.m., hitting Novotroitske, Chermalyk, Pavlopil, Hnutove and Vodiane. “Hostile snipers’ groups were active in Talakivka and Vodiane. Active shooting attack at positions near Shyrokyne started at 9 p.m. It involved the use of 122-mm artillery and tanks. The armistice held in the vicinity of Mariinka,” said the spokesman. 41 militants’ attacks took place in the Mariupol sector yesterday, and 11 of these involved use of heavy armor.
