Ukraine Crisis Media Center

on condemnation of harassment and threats against the staff and management of Ukrainian Institute of National Memory

UCMC is deeply concerned and outraged at a cheapjack escapade of some unidentified persons who are obviously trying to exert pressure on the UINP staff and head, impinge on their lives and health, dignity and business reputation. Such action is an attempt to discredit the self-sacrificing activity of the institution and is motivated by a desire to intimidate its employees.

UCMC has been actively cooperating with UINP since it was established. We believe in professionalism, integrity and patriotism of the Institute staff and Head Volodymyr Viatrovych. UCMC supports the state policy of restoring national memory, decommunisation, de-Russification, honoring the heroes of the struggle for the independence of Ukraine, opening the forgotten pages of our past, consistently implemented by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory for the benefit of our country and people.

UCMC annually engages in celebration of important dates and national information campaigns that are supported by UINP, including the Day of Ukrainian Unity, the Day of Kruty Heroes, the Day of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, Ukraine’s Independence Day, Defender of Ukraine Day. Together, we have implemented a number of projects in the field of public information policy aimed at promoting Ukraine in the world and fostering tolerance, self-respect, dignity and the invincible spirit of our citizens.

UCMC appeals to the National Police and other law enforcement bodies of Ukraine for thorough and impartial investigation of the threats, provocations, acts of hooliganism and vandalism committed against the staff and premises of the Institute, and asks to ensure appropriate protection of the employees during the investigation.

We urge other civic organizations to support the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
