Delegation of the Committee on European Affairs of the French Assemblée Nationale: Our main goal is the territorial integrity of Ukraine

Kyiv, 4 July 2014 – “We will no longer delay making decisions on Ukraine,” said Danielle Auroi, Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the French Assemblée Nationale, during a press conference at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center. “It is important for us to understand what is really happening in Ukraine. It seems that Ukraine is under double scrutiny: in addition to the supportive observation of the entire world which is today helping Ukraine in various ways, including financially, we are trying to see if some progress will be achieved, in particular in issues related to democracy, transparent policy and combating corruption. The European Union cannot ignore the geopolitical and economic role of Russia but at the same time it absolutely stands with Ukraine. We have created a monitoring group for Eastern European countries, and Ukraine today is one of the most important topics of our discussions. The whole world keeps a close eye on your country.” Ms. Auroi also said that the annexation of Crimea by Russia was unacceptable.

Mr. Remy Pauvros, Chairman of the France-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group also noted France’s support to Ukraine: “We are completely on the side of the Ukrainian people and our main goal is the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We are here to support Ukraine and the European and democratic aspirations of the Ukrainians. France has a tremendous experience in building a democratic society and this experience can be used, but still each country should build a democratic society according to its own scenario.”

Members of the delegation emphasized the need for an early parliamentary election in Ukraine. “Last presidential election in Ukraine was transparent and fair and the new President was given a huge credit of trust. However, for Mr. Poroshenko to be able to build a new state, a new parliamentary election is required, a brand new functioning parliament needs to be elected which will cooperate with President Poroshenko and will act in the interests of the Ukrainian people,” emphasized the members of Delegation of the Committee on European Affairs of the French Assemblée Nationale.
