Ministry of Defense: Militants shell residential quarters in Mariupol sector

In Mariupol sector militants shelled residential quarters in the eastern outskirts of Berdianske village. Direct hits completely destroyed two residential houses, several other buildings were seriously damaged. “Later the enemy shelled residential sector in Shyrokyne. Details are being established now. Luckily, there were no civilian casualties,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Russia-equipped militants conducted a 30-minutes shooting attack at Krasnohorivka with light and heavy weapons, firing 28 mortar rounds. They also used mortars near Maryinka just after the midday, and conducted two armed provocations in the north of Volnovakha district. Main hostilities took place later in Pavlopil-Shyrokyne frontline in the evening. “Russian proxies were shelling several Ukrainian frontline positions with cannons and mortars for around 2.5 hours, having discharged approximately 60 rounds. Later the enemy returned to the usual tactics of provocative attacks, mostly with small arms,” said the spokesman. In total, militants conducted 23 attacks in the Mariupol sector yesterday, using heavy weapons nine times.

In Luhansk sector hostilities turned to low intensity mode with only five attacks and one instance of heavy weapons use yesterday. Militants conducted a shooting attack in Krymske in the morning, following which the ceasefire held for 10 hours. Provocations resumed in the evening, mostly in Popasna district.

In Donetsk sector Avdiivka remains a usual hotspot. Militants started a shelling here around 17:00 and continued for over five hours, firing more than 80 mortar and artillery rounds. Moreover, Russian proxies used mortars in attacks on the adjacent positions in Kamianka and Shakhta Butovka. At Svitlodarsk area militants violated the ceasefire once using armored vehicles. Moreover, they conducted three attacks in Zaitseve, and three more near Donetsk airport. In total, the enemy violated the ceasefire 12 times in Donetsk sector yesterday, five of these involved heavy weapons.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no fatalities, but three servicemen were wounded.
