Ministry of Defense: Militants’ shelling kills civilian in Donetsk sector

In Donetsk sector militants used 122-mm cannons in Pisky firing 33 rounds at Ukrainian positions within 10 minutes, said Col. Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesperson on ATO, at a press briefing held at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Active hostilities continue close to Avdiivka. “The enemy intensively uses mortars. Shelling continue both in day- and nighttime. In Novoluhanske militants opened a tank fire at about 11:00,” said Col. Motuzyanyk.

At 22:45 militants attacked the village of Sukha Balka with 152-mm artillery, killing a local resident. “The attack caught the man near the house, he was unable to take cover. He died on the spot. In addition, shells damaged two houses and completely destroyed another one. Also, Russian proxies violated the ceasefire in Mayorsk and Verkhniotoretske,” added Col. Motuzyanyk. Overall, militants carried out 13 attacks in Donetsk sector yesterday.

In Luhansk sector hostilities continued along the whole frontline. Militants attacked Shchastia from the opposite bank of the Siverskyi Donets three times, using heavy weapons. In Triokhizbenka and Novooleksandrivka Russian proxies used mortars several times, and conducted two brief attacks on Krymske. Overall, militants violated the ceasefire 19 times in Luhansk sector, mostly in nighttime, using heavy weapons six times.

In Mariupol sector hostilities were concentrated in Pavlopil–Shyrokyne frontline. Militants used heavy weapons in Krasnohorivka, Mykolaivka and Chermalyk, firing over 30 mortar and artillery rounds. “The most intense attacks took place in the daytime. Overall, militants carried out 23 attacks in Mariupol sector,” concluded the spokesperson.

No Ukrainian serviceman was killed yesterday, but three were wounded in action.
