Ministry of Defense: Militants use mortars and artillery along the Bakhmut road

Militants violated the ceasefire six times in Luhansk sector of the ATO zone yesterday, using mortars and artillery along the Bakhmut road. “They consecutively shelled three different Ukrainian positions. The enemy fired over 20 mortar rounds and several artillery projectiles,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Moreover, a series of hostile attacks took place in Popasna district.  Ukrainian troops returned fire in three incidents.

In Donetsk sector, Russian proxies violated the ceasefire 12 times, mostly during the hours of darkness. Avdiivka and Pisky-Nevelske area were the main flashpoints.  Militants used only light weapons. Ukrainian troops were compelled to return fire in four incidents.

In Mariupol sector, militants violated the ceasefire 13 times in Novotroitske-Starohnativka and Pavlopil-Vodiane frontlines. “The enemy was shooting from midnight till 03:00 and from 18:00 till midnight. The ceasefire held the rest of the time. Ukrainian troops responded with small arms fire to most of the attacks,” elaborated the spokesman.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no fatalities yesterday, but one serviceman was wounded in a shelling near Novoselivka Druha.

According to the recent intelligence data, Russia-backed militants lost ten men killed and 31 wounded last week. “So-called 9th regiment of Russia-backed militant groups holding positions in the south of Mariupol sector incurred the largest share of these losses,” said the spokesman.
