Ministry of Defense: Russia-backed militants attack Ukrainian positions 26 times

Russian proxies committed 26 ceasefire violations in ATO zone yesterday. Ukrainian troops returned fire 14 times. “The enemy fired thirty-four 120-mm and fifty-nine 82-mm mortar rounds at our positions, including during two nighttime bombardments near Luhanske,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press-briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, Russia-backed militants violated the ceasefire 17 times. The militants delivered a lasting shelling of Ukrainian positions near Luhanske using 120-mm and 82-mm mortars for a few hours and having fired a total of 47 rounds. Moreover, they used IFVs, various grenade launchers, and small arms. “Russia-backed militants also fired 12 mortar rounds against Ukrainian position near Novotoshkivske, 15 rounds near Novoluhanske, and 8 more near Troitske,” Colonel Motuzyanyk said.

Militants attacked Ukrainian positions near Novooleksandrivka with 82-mm mortars. Moreover, Ukrainian positions near Zaitseve, Lozove, Zhovte, and Krymske came under hostile fire of IFV weapons, grenade launchers, and small arms. Ukrainian troops returned fire using weapons not proscribed under the Minsk agreements.

In Donetsk sector, Russia-backed militants made nine precision attacks upon Ukrainian positions. Near Maryinka they fired ten 82-mm mortar rounds. “Militants also attacked Ukrainian positions in Maryinka, Kamianka, Vodiane, Berezove, and Nevelske areas using small arms and grenade launchers,” added the spokesman. Ukrainian troops returned fire.

 “One Ukrainian serviceman was seriously wounded in action near Troitske and died of wounds at the hospital in Popasna. One more serviceman was wounded by a trip wire near Verkhniotoretske,” informed Col. Motuzyanyk.
