Sumy city council will work on a constant watch starting from Tuesday, August 19, city mayor Aleksandr Lysenko announced at the meeting, UNIAN news agency reports quoting state council’s press service. “We could see we have an unidentified situation nowadays, when military restriction offices or railroad station are being mined. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a criminal gang, which has been preparing terroristic and sabotage operations in Poltava region to intimidate locals and destabilize the situation in the region, the head of SBU Valentyn Nalyvaychenko reports to the President, UNIAN news agency quotes press service. It is established that a criminal gang was formed of 5 locals from Poltava region aged from 39 to 55. Three of them are former soldiers.

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic has adopted their own Criminal code which institutes capital punishment, militants’ press service informs. The first meeting of the so-called “presidium of DPR’s ministers’ council was held on August 17. Members of the presidium adopted two decrees: “About DPR’s War Courts” and “About adopting the Criminal code of Donetsk People’s Republic. Russia’s normative base was used as a guide during the work on DPR’s Criminal case.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is checking the involvement of the leader of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada, MP Oleksandr Yefremov, and Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov in financing terrorists in eastern Ukraine, SBU Deputy Head Viktor Yahun has said on Channel 5. At the same time answering the question whether criminal proceeding was opened against Akhmetov and Yefremov, Yahun’s response was negative. “There wasn’t proceeding (against those people – ed.) , there was proceeding against financing terrorists that’s why all the information needs to be checked, including people you’d mentioned,” he added.

An attempt on the life of Nikolaev governor Vadym Merikov has been prevented by Ukraine’s special services, the source in SBU said Interfax news agency. According to the information, the group of 5 people, which had been planning to kill Merikov, his wife and a child, was detained. “It is considered, this group has roots in the so-called DPR. Earlier, Merikov destroyed terrorists’ cell in Nikolaev and prevent cooperation of terrorists from Nikolaev with DPR’s representatives,” the agency’s informant said.

In the so-called Donets People’s Republic claim they received humanitarian aid from Russia on 17 August. “Today (August 17 – ed.) in the late evening three vehicles have arrived with humanitarian aid from Russia, which was taken by DPR’s state commission,” terrorists’ press service informs, RBC news agency quotes. The head of Ukraine’s customs service Anatoly Makarenko in his Facebook informs humanitarian aid from Russia hasn’t arrived at the border crossing point between two countries. Official representatives from Red Cross should arrive on August 18 to make all necessary customs procedures.

By an order of Russia’s president, first deputy head of Kremlin administration Vyacheslav Volodin held consultation with parties about candidates’ nominations on posts of heads of three regions including occupied Crimea and Sevastopol. Elections will be held on 9 October. Representatives of all parties declare their readiness to include in their list the candidacy of the interim head of Crimean region Sergey Aksenov and the interim head of Sevastopol region Sergey Menyailo.
