NSDC: Terrorists shelled Schastya with mortars

September 27, 2014, Kyiv – “Despite all efforts of the Ukrainian side to implement peace initiatives, the terrorists continue to violate the ceasefire agreements and try to outflank Ukrainian military and bring more territories under their control. In the town of Shchastya during mortar shelling the terrorists damaged the town hospital, military commandant’s office, municipal service administration, technical school #50. One woman was killed, 16 local inhabitants were wounded, 3 of them severely injured. Within last 24 hours the illegal armed groups attacked Ukrainian checkpoints and positions in Donetsk and Luhansk regions for a number of times”, – Volodymyr Polevyi, the deputy chief of the National Security and Defence Council Information Center at his briefing in the Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

The NSDC representative informed that 1 Ukrainian serviceman was killed and 8 wounded in the last 24 hours.

Volodymyr reported that shelling of the Ukrainian Army positions near the airport of Donetsk continues. To severely shell the positions of Ukrainian ATO forces, terrorists used “Grad” systems and mortars near Maloorlivka, Orlovo-Ivanivka, Ridkodub (Donetsk region) and Shchastya (Lugansk region).

Occasionally terrorists attack the checkpoint of the Ukrainian Army near Talakivka not far from Mariupol, but the shells sometimes hit dwelling houses of the town.

The joint center for control and coordination of the ceasefire issues, consisting of Ukrainian representatives, OSCE monitoring groups and Russian military is actively working. The chief of this group is Lieutenant-general Yuri Dumanskiy.

Russian representatives, headed by deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian land forces Lieutenant-general Lentsov Oleksandr Ivanovich, are now in Donetsk. The meeting, devoted to the ceasefire regime implementation with the representatives of illegal armed groups was conducted. The results of this meeting are till now unknown.

In the border area for the past 24 hours there were no combats with terrorists as well as no shellings of the State Border Service units. Violations of Ukrainian air space were not spotted either.

During his briefing Volodymyr Polevyi informed that the international community continues to support Ukraine. The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz sent a protest note to the Russian embassy in Brussels because of the refusal to enter the territory of the Russian Federation for a member of the European Parliament Rebecca Harms, who flew to Russia to inspect the judicial process of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Germany Sawsan Chebli claimed that the plans of self-proclaimed “DPR” to hold elections in November would undermine the Minsk agreements. She also left open the possibility for the German side to take part at the possible meeting of Ukrainian and Russian presidents on the Donbas crisis.
