ATO Press Center Chief: Russia-backed militants violate Minsk agreements using heavy weapons

Kyiv, May 12, 2015. Pro-Russian militants used heavy weapons prohibited by Minsk agreements while firing at the Ukrainian troops starting from 6 pm yesterday, said Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Poronyuk, Chief of the ATO Press Center at the briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

“In the Donetsk sector, militants shelled Opytne, Vodyane and Pisky from 120-mm mortars as well as fired at the area of the Putylivska mine from an anti-aircraft gun and a tank. Enemy snipers have been active close to Maryinka as well. In the Mariupol sector, they fired from self-propelled artillery systems, 120-mm and 82-mm mortars, and used grenade launchers and small arms. In the Luhansk sector, pro-Russian fighters opened fire at Stanytsia Luhanska and Shchastya from large-caliber mortars, grenade launchers and small arms. Leninske and Lozove also came under fire from large-caliber machine guns,” Lt. Col. Poronyuk said.
