Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk: Militants become more active in the Mariupol sector

Kyiv, May 9, 2016. Militants were the most active in the Mariupol sector in the last 24 hours. “A hostile sniper was shooting in Mariinka. Moreover, a number of provocations took place in Taramchuk and Shyrokyne,” informed the spokesman of the Presidential Administration on ATO related issues Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. In total, six militants’ attacks took place in the Mariupol sector yesterday.

Two Ukrainian troops died in combat yesterday and four were wounded. Russia-backed militant groups violated the armistice once in the Luhansk sector in Stanytsia Luhanska. Two militants’ attacks took place in the Donetsk sector. “It happened near Luhanske village and Avdiivka,” elaborated the spokesman.

The Security Service of Ukraine prevented an attempt of subversion in Mariupol. Field investigators found a weapons cache containing nine grenade launchers, 16 RGD-5 and F-1 grenades with fuses, 80 kg of gunpowder, 600 g of TNT, two electric fuses and almost 2500 cartridges of various calibers. “Law enforcements found that the cache belonged to militants who were planning subversive acts to mark 2 years from seizure of the building of Mariupol police department,” said Col. Motuzyanyk. The police of Donetsk region continue seizing illegal weapons and ammunition. Seven grenades and 50 cartridges of various calibers were seized in the past 24 hours in Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Krasnoarmiysk.
