Rostyslav Pavlenko: Ukraine’s Government and Parliament remain in power

Today “Udar” and “Svoboda” factions, part of “Batkivshyna” faction as well as 15 MPs not belonging to any faction left the Parliamentary coalition having set legal grounds for the President of Ukraine to dissolve the Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) and set extraordinary Parliamentary elections – in case a new coalition is not formed within 30 days. Dissolution of Parliament was one of Maidan’s demands.

At the same time according to Rostyslav Pavlenko, MP of “Udar” faction at a briefing in the UkraineCrisisMediaCenter: “Coalition dissolution does not influence Parliament operation. Verkhovna Rada remains legitimate, in power, MPs continue voting the bills which are important for the country.”

Commenting on the Prime Minister Yatsenyuk’s statement on his resignation Mr. Pavlenko noted: “It’s a political statement. At the same time as per Article 15 of the Law of Ukraine “On Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers” Verkhovna Rada has got 10 days to either accept or reject resignation of the government head. I would like to underline that for the moment government’s powers remain valid.”

To remind, this morning according to the legislation in force communist faction has been dissolved in the Parliament.
