ATO spokesman: Militants fired 10 times at localities of Luhansk region

Kyiv, 20 January 2015 – “From 18.00 yesterday terrorists fired 49 times at the positions of anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces and at the nearby localities. Krymske in Luhansk region and its outskirts were shelled most intensely – four times with Grad and twice with mortars. 10 cases when localities are being targeted with shelling are reported in Luhansk region. Terrorists keep using the scorched earth policy. They aim at destroying the infrastructure and killing people,” informed Leonyd Matyukhin, ATO spokesman via Skype at a briefing at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Localities Verkhnya Vilkhova, Nyzhne, Tryokhizbenka, Stanytsia Luhanska, Donetsky, Heyivka, Pervomayske and Pisky were shelled three times with multiple rocket launcher systems. A tank was firing near Shchastia.

Mercenaries fired three times with mortars, grenade-launchers and artillery at Stanytsia Luhanska, Sanzharivka, Myronivsky, twice at Smile and Novhorodske. They also opened fire at Ukrainian positions near Shchastia, Tryokhizbenka, Maryinka, Krasnohorivka, Tonenke and other localities.

In the last 24 hours terrorists opened fire a total of 102 times. Most active firing points were neutralized by our military.

In the Donetsk airport area illegal criminal groups continue firing at the frontline positions of Ukrainian military near localities Pisky, Avdiivka and Tonenke. “Our artillery suppresses militants’ firing points every time they become active. Facilities earlier liberated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces currently remain under their control,” added ATO spokesman at the briefing.
