ATO Staff spokesman: 26 ceasefire violations last night, militants use heavy weapons

Kyiv, April 14, 2015. Russia-backed militants of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR” fired at the Ukrainian military positions from 6pm till midnight on April 13. They have violated ceasefire 26 times, among these there were eight cases of shelling from 120-mm mortars, said Lieutenant Colonel Serhiy Danylenko, ATO Staff spokesman, at a briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

 “The enemy was firing from mortars, tanks, anti-aircraft guns, small arms and grenade launchers in the areas of Pisky, Avdiivka, Opytne towns and Putylivska mine, all in the Donetsk region. The enemy shelled Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka and Pisky with 122-mm artillery at 7:20 pm and 9:10 pm. Moreover, militants used incendiary ammunition in the area of Avdiivka from 10 pm till 11 pm,” Lt. Col. Danylenko specified.

The ATO Staff spokesman also said that no shelling incidents were observed in the area of Mariupol last evening. Militants fired twice from small arms at the Ukrainian foothold near Stary Aidar and shelled the area of Sukhodol from 120-mm mortars in the Luhansk region.

Ukrainian servicemen spotted eight militant UAVs in the Luhansk region and in the vicinity of Mariupol. “Ukrainian Armed Forces downed one of them over the town of Teple near Stanytsia Luhanska,” Lt. Col. Danylenko added.
