Olha Bogomolets: The Main Reason For the Current Crisis is a Socio-Economic Catastrophe in Ukraine

Kyiv, May, 8th, 2014 – During a briefing at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center Olha Bogomolets, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Euromaidan activist, 2014 Presidential elections candidate voiced her version to evaluate highly complicated situation in Ukraine, as well as possible ways to solve it.
“To some extent, our media are to blame for in the distortion of information and aggravation of the situation in the East – our “distorting mirror” that aired during the Maidan inappropriate messages about Bandera followers and the Nazis, as if Maidan wanted to bring “fascists” to power. This is not true”, Olha Bogomolets says. “And now the same media continue to distort the truth, calling the residents of the east separatists. This is not true, I know that many people in the East of Ukraine do not support terrorists’ actions, but they felt their interests threatened by the new government. We need a constructive dialogue so that people stop being puppets in someone else’s game. We can’t allow for the conflict on the basis of differences in our past, everyone has its own culture, its heroes, its celebration. We should talk only about the common future – our security, standards of living and complete change of government. This is what unites us – all citizens of Ukraine, the West and the East”.

Mrs. Bogomolets unveiled her vision of steps that must be done for the establishment of a new country. It is about the parliamentary elections, the establishment of mechanisms for decentralization of power and comfort of doing business, fighting corruption and of lustration, reform of agriculture and health, and so on. “First of all, we will not be able to do so with the old people in power. All of the reform program will remain only a romance. So we need to take new people, graduates of foreign universities, and completely change the government. We want to provide the opportunity to work for those people who because of lack of money or links to the oligarchic clans had no access to leadership positions in the government “, Mrs. Bogomolets assured.

Olha Bogomolets informed that on May 11th School of Patriots will be held at Expoplaza exhibition complex, which will bring together more than 2,500 volunteers, selected proportionally from all regions of Ukraine, 50% of them are men and 50% – women, mean age – 32 years, including 90% with higher education, 40% – with 2 or more institutions of higher education, all speak at least two languages, including English. Vladimir Tarasov, an expert of international level is invited to attend the event.

As a candidate for presidency, Olha Bogomolets announced plans to introduce a law on the responsibility and authority to legitimize Maidan, a popular assembly, as instruments of government regulation and with the right to withdraw the government at the event of failure to perform its duties. Her first steps in power would be to provide complete coverage of telecommunications Ukraine and ensuring access to Internet in the most remote parts of the country. She suggested to conduct evening classes for seniors in schools with the aim of teaching them the rules of use of computers. “I want people not to have to go out any more and take up cobbles, if the power will once again do something wrong. Ukrainians will be able to vote via the Internet. This is not a fiction, this is European experience that we want to apply”, Olha Bogomolets said.
