Kyiv, July 21, 2015. Ukraine is in the process of becoming more open toward people from Crimea, and therefore must create new opportunities for those who want to study in the country, said Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Kvit during a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

“Ukraine could create better opportunities for Crimean inhabitants, so that they get into Ukrainian universities. We communicate with activists a lot, both with Crimean residents and with those who have left. They are concerned about their situation, and want their children to have a definitive status which would allow them unimpeded entrance into Ukrainian universities and colleges,” said Kvit.

Kvit went on to say that this could only be done through changes to legislation. The discussion of these changes will begin in the near future so that a draft bill can be launched as soon as possible. According to Serhiy Kvit, there is hope that the entire legislative base will be created and approved within a year. “This bill must be addressed to Crimea specifically, as the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions is different. I call for to anyone who has legislation proposals to join the process. The Ministry of Education has yet to receive any such proposals. I am convinced that only through legislation we can pave the way to Ukrainian universities for Crimean children,” emphasized Kvit.
