Kyiv, October 22, 2015. Ukraine is satisfied with the decisions adopted at the 13th Ministerial Council of the Energy Community in Tirana, Albania, said Mykhailo Bno-Ayriyan, Head of the European Integration Department with the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. According to Bno-Ayriyan, among the most crucial decisions for Ukraine was regarding development of National Plan for decreases of industrial emissions by big waste incinerators by 2027.

It is worth noting that the European Commission set particular deadlines for Ukraine that foresee the concentration of sulfur dioxide and of dust in its industrial waste decreasing by the end of 2028 (and nitrogen oxide by the end of 2033).

The Council also adopted a decision to increase the maximum hours of operation for heat power plant stations’ units to 40000 hours (instead of 20000 hours for other member states of the Energy Union). The decision is only valid for those units of heat power plants that cannot be modernized due to advanced deterioration.

Taras Kachka, expert on European integration, commenting on the Ministerial Council decision noted: “Current activities of the Energy Union are gaining a more practical nature. Harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with that of the EU and with the EU standards as well as implementation of joint decisions enable Ukraine to successfully integrate into the internal energy market of the EU. Moreover decisions of the Energy Union and commitments on their implementation stimulate the development of national energy legislation.”
