Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk: Mariinka, outskirts of Dokuchaevsk and Shyrokyne are main ‘flashpoints’

Enemy uses vehicle-mounted weapons against Ukrainian positions, mostly shelling Mariupol sector. Military intelligence reports new weapons supply for the militants.

Kyiv, April 28, 2016.The situation in the ATO zone remained the most difficult in the Mariupol sector yesterday. Militants shot 19 times in 24 hours, seven attacks involved use of mortar launchers. “Militants are violating the ceasefire along the entire frontline, using mortar launchers and armor. Three main ‘flashpoints’ are Mariinka, the outskirts of Dokuchaevsk and Shyrokyne,” said Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, Presidential Administration spokesperson on ATO related issues, at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Militants shelled ATO troops’ positions five times in the Donetsk sector – at the Svitlodarsk bulge, in Zaitseve and near Avdiivka, using mortar launchers three times. “Russia-backed militant groups conducted four attacks in the Luhansk sector, all of them in Popasna district,” said Col. Motuzyanyk.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses in combat yesterday, but one serviceman was wounded. According to the available information, militants incurred losses of four militants dead and six wounded in 24 hours in Avdiivka industrial area. “Moreover, three militants from so-called “100th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 1st army corps of Donetsk People’s Republic” (“DPR”) were wounded by ‘friendly fire’ yesterday,” said the spokesman.

According to the Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, militants received another batch of reinforcement from Russia. “Echelon carrying diesel fuel and combat equipment – three tanks, two GRAD multiple launcher rocket systems and two self-propelled artillery mounts – arrived at Ilovaisk. Eight tanks T-72, four armored personnel carriers BMP-2, four armored assault vehicles BMD-2 and six howitzers D-30 came to Khartsyzk. Moreover, military equipment was delivered from the territory of Russia to Novoazovsk and Krasnodon,” informed Col. Motuzyanyk. There is information that militants are expecting to receive over 1 billion Russian rubles for the needs of self-proclaimed “DPR” in the next few days.
