Team of technocrats appointed to Ukraine’s Healthcare Ministry

Acting Healthcare Minister Dr. Ulana Suprun presents the newly appointed team of deputy ministers. The three technocrats are highly qualified medical professionals – representatives of practical medicine, civic sector and academia. The team claimed its determination to reforming Ukraine’s healthcare system.  

Kyiv, September 2, 2016. On August 31, 2016 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine appointed three new Deputy Ministers of Healthcare. “Our intention is that Ukraine’s government is created of people, by people and for people. We are on the right way to achieve that. We are guided by principles that the disease needs to be diagnosed and treated,” noted Ulana Suprun, acting Healthcare Minister of Ukraine at a press-briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. “Team of the Healthcare Ministry is non-political, made up of professionals, technocrats that will work in a new way. New deputies are experts who have proved with their work and knowledge that they can be responsible for changing the medical system in Ukraine,” she added. 

Oleksandr Linchevsky was appointed Deputy Healthcare Minister on medical assistance in ATO. Linchevsky is a polytrauma surgeon at the Kyiv city hospital no.17, assistant to department of thoracic surgery and pulmonology at the Shupyk National Medical Academy for postgraduate education; Medical Director of the “Patriot Defense” initiative; member of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons and of the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery.

Oksana Syvak was appointed Deputy Minister on public health and European integration. One of Syvak’s activities is coordination of civic medical projects at the “Initiative E+” NGO as well as of clinical research in oncology, cardiology, rheumatology and endocrinology.

Pavlo Kovtonyuk was appointed Deputy Minister in charge of reforms implementation. Kovtonyuk is an expert of the World Health Organization on reforming public healthcare system, professor at the School of Public Health of National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Earlier Kovtonyuk was a project manager on healthcare reform at the National Reforms Council. He as taking part in developing the Healthcare Reform Strategy in 2015-2020 and the Reform concept for healthcare financing.

Roman Ilyk, MP of the seventh convocation, was appointed Deputy Healthcare Minister by order issued by Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers on March 30, 2016.
