Ministry of Defense: Militants use mortars in Pavlopil, Hnutove and Vodiane

In Mariupol sector of ATO zone hostilities took place in Pavlopil – Shyrokyne frontline area yesterday. Militants conducted mortar attacks in Pavlopil, Hnutove and Vodiane, informed Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko during daily press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Russia-backed militants repeatedly opened fire from light weapons in Lebedynske and Shyrokyne. In total, Russian proxies conducted 13 attacks in Mariupol sector yesterday, using mortars four times. Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no fatal casualties yesterday, but two servicemen were wounded.

In Luhansk sector militants opened fire at Ukrainian positions three times. “Around 06:00 militants performed an armed provocation near Novooleksandrivka.  Later, they attacked Katerynivka with mortars between 13:00 and 14:00, and used grenade launchers around midnight,” said Col. Lysenko.

In Donetsk sector main hostilities took place near Zaitseve between 17:00 and 21:00. Moreover, Russia-backed militants performed a series of armed attacks near Avdiivka and opened fire in Luhanske once. “The enemy used no heavy armor in the abovementioned areas. In total, six hostile attacks took place in Donetsk sector yesterday,” summarized the spokesman.

Yesterday all along the frontline military chaplains congratulated Ukrainian servicemen with Easter. Specifically, the priests of the NGO “First Ukrainian battalion of military chaplains” visited Avdiivka to greet the soldiers with Christ’s resurrection. They brought Easter cakes, pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) and sweets. Soldiers told the guests about daily enemy attacks taking place regardless of ceasefire, the weapons the enemy uses, and assured them that they will leave their positions only in one case: if they have to attack.
