On December 20, Russia-backed militants violated the ceasefire nine times. The Ukrainian troops returned fire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, the operational-tactical command \u201cSkhid\u201d (East) reported hostile attacks near Vodiane (by the Azov Sea) and Pavlopil that Russia\u2019s proxies made using hand-held grenade launchers and small arms respectively. They used both types of weapons to stage an attack near Pisky. Russia-backed militants also carried out four attacks on the Ukrainian troops outside Avdiivka. \u201cThe occupants fired grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms a number of times,\u201d a statement released by the Joint Forces Operation command reads.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russia-backed militants fired upon civilians near Kamianka. They fired several shots from antitank grenade launchers and destroyed a John Deere tractor on its way back from agricultural works. \u201cThe civilian machinery piece was destroyed outside the Ukrainian positions,\u201d the Joint Forces Operation command said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the tractor operators was injured in the attack. While Ukraine was not a focus issue, a few answers indirectly addressed the themes of concern by Ukrainians.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stepping up support for Donbas.<\/strong>&nbsp;Particularly, the Russian President said Russia will \u201cstep up its support\u201d for the occupied part of Donbas. \u201cRussia has been supporting Donbas and will continue supporting it. We will even step up our support for Donbas. That goes for industrial production, social issues, and infrastructure,\u201d Putin is quoted as saying.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No revision of Minsk agreements in sight.<\/strong>&nbsp;The Kremlin\u2019s chief denied yet again the prospects of the Minsk agreements to be revised.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOfficials in Kyiv publicly said many times that they were not going to implement the Minsk agreements, they want their key provisions to be revised. The Minsk agreements were cemented by a resolution of the UN Security Council into an international law. That\u2019s why unilateral revision is not possible,\u201d Putin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maidan, Crimea and Donbas. The report also mentions that the competent authorities in Ukraine and\/or the Russian Federation are \u201ceither inactive in relation to the categories of persons and conduct that the Office has identified, or because the national judicial system is &#8216;unavailable&#8217; in territory under the control of the opposing party.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Previously, the Russian Federation ignored the ICC\u2019s requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few days earlier, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Fatou Bensouda announced the conclusion of the preliminary examination of the Ukraine case file and envisaged the investigative stage ahead.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy Office has concluded that there is a reasonable basis at this time to believe that a broad range of conduct constituting war crimes and crimes against humanity within the jurisdiction of the Court have been committed,\u201d the Prosecutor\u2019s statement reads.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The war crimes in question fall into three major categories: crimes committed in the context of the conduct of hostilities; crimes committed during detentions; and crimes committed in Crimea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ukraine and Hungary: how Russia exploits a new escalation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"906\" height=\"581\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 906 581'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Ugorshhina.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-132061\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Ugorshhina.jpg 906w, https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Ugorshhina-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Ugorshhina-768x493.jpg 768w, https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Ugorshhina-608x390.jpg 608w, https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Ugorshhina-758x486.jpg 758w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 906px) 100vw, 906px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent weeks have been marked by another escalation of Ukrainian-Hungarian relations. In particular, Hungary has requested OSCE to send a monitoring mission to Zakarpattia (Transcarpathia) \u2013 a borderline region of Ukraine where Hungarian minority is concentrated. Tensions rose after Security service of Ukraine (SBU) searched one of the Hungarian charities. SBU reported finding materials calling for regional autonomy and popularizing the idea of \u201cGreat Hungary\u201d.
