{"id":133831,"date":"2021-02-03T15:21:35","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T13:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/?p=133831"},"modified":"2021-02-05T12:39:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T10:39:08","slug":"joint-statement-of-ukrainian-ngos-countering-disinformation-in-regard-to-sanctions-imposed-on-taras-kozak-and-legal-entities-linked-to-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/en\/joint-statement-of-ukrainian-ngos-countering-disinformation-in-regard-to-sanctions-imposed-on-taras-kozak-and-legal-entities-linked-to-him","title":{"rendered":"JOINT STATEMENT Of Ukrainian NGOs Countering Disinformation In Regard to Sanctions Imposed on Taras Kozak and legal Entities Linked to Him"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We, the representatives of Ukrainian civil society and expert community countering disinformation, insist that sanctions imposed on Taras Kozak, legal owner of TV-channels 112, ZIK and Newsone, and legal entities linked to him by the decree of President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 2, 2021 to&nbsp; implement the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, <strong>do not<\/strong> constitute an attack on the freedom of speech.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These channels constitute tools of foreign influence operations, and therefore a systemic threat to information security of Ukraine for the following reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>According to the Presidential Office of Ukraine, they are funded from the Russian Federation, which has been illegally occupying Crimea and territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions for 7 years;<\/li><li>They consistently promote Kremlin disinformation, including but not limited to the false, misleading and manipulative narratives of \u201cfascist post-2014 Ukraine\u201d, \u201cRussophobia\u201d, \u201cUkraine as a failed state\u201d and \u201cUkraine is controlled by the West\u201d. The general narrative of these channels is that Ukraine does not have a right to exist as a pro-European independent country;<\/li><li>They have, on a number of occasions, supported Russian aggression against Ukraine (example <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?t=9246&amp;v=X5VuPrJ5JVw&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;fbclid=IwAR2S1YDKRIFunrBZ7_xLHJUa8bIO8Tiqgr5GRoP6Q37CQOMbfglmlo8n4aA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"1 (\u0432\u0456\u0434\u043a\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0454\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f \u0443 \u043d\u043e\u0432\u0456\u0439 \u0432\u043a\u043b\u0430\u0434\u0446\u0456)\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?t=4714&amp;v=7wx8Q4hjmBE&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;fbclid=IwAR0SxBP0juT9so0cdAzr-L7wov9xAu70WjR_RoLfIjfPD27Rm8SNHocpcHc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"2 (\u0432\u0456\u0434\u043a\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0454\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f \u0443 \u043d\u043e\u0432\u0456\u0439 \u0432\u043a\u043b\u0430\u0434\u0446\u0456)\">2<\/a>);<\/li><li>These channels do not apply the principles of the freedom of speech and journalistic standards in their work (<a href=\"https:\/\/detector.media\/community\/article\/168295\/2019-06-20-shcho-vidbuvaietsya-na-zik-zvilnennya-chorni-spysky-ta-peremovyny-z-ap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (\u0432\u0456\u0434\u043a\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0454\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f \u0443 \u043d\u043e\u0432\u0456\u0439 \u0432\u043a\u043b\u0430\u0434\u0446\u0456)\">example<\/a>);<\/li><li>They repeatedly serve as a tool for political PR in favor of its owner\u2019s pro-Russian political party;<\/li><li>They frequently employ experts with no relevant education and professional experience to promote the political agenda favored by the channels\u2019 owner;<\/li><li>These channels served as a platform for promotion of the far-right.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering all of the above, 112, ZIK and Newsone cannot be considered genuine media intending to provide objective and unbiased information for the good of the public; they behave as tools of malign influence operations aimed to smuggle narratives of Kremlin propaganda under the mask of &#8220;domestic&#8221; Ukrainian media. Limiting their activities in Ukraine is a step towards enhancing information security of the Ukrainian state, especially vital during the ongoing Russian aggression against it. Research Center \u00abPrometheus\u00bb<\/em><\/li><li><em>Foreign Policy Council \u201cUkrainian Prism\u201d<\/em><\/li><li><em>VoxCheck<\/em><\/li><li><em>Center for Defense Reforms<\/em><\/li><li><em>Euromaidan Press<\/em><\/li><li><em>Texty.org.ua<\/em><\/li><li><em>Institute of Mass Information<\/em><\/li><li><em>National Interests Advocacy Network Ants<\/em><\/li><li><em>Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation<\/em><\/li><li><em>European Expert
