{"id":150203,"date":"2021-10-04T14:13:41","date_gmt":"2021-10-04T11:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/?p=150203"},"modified":"2021-10-04T14:13:44","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T11:13:44","slug":"china-as-a-rising-power-in-eastern-europe-discussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/en\/china-as-a-rising-power-in-eastern-europe-discussion","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;China as a Rising Power in Eastern Europe&#8221; Discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ukrainian expert community, while pertaining its focus on the more immediate threat posed by the Kremlin, should not ignore the issue of Chinese influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was stressed by Head of Hybrid Warfare Analytical Group at UCMC Oleksandra Tsekhanovska at the roundtable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=582iMNnF8vw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (\u0432\u0456\u0434\u043a\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0454\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f \u0443 \u043d\u043e\u0432\u0456\u0439 \u0432\u043a\u043b\u0430\u0434\u0446\u0456)\">\u201cChina as a rising power in Eastern Europe \u2013 the danger of its economic incentives and money\u201d<\/a>, organized by the European Values Center for Security Policy and Texty.org.ua.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIn joint efforts to counter malign influence, I would argue for a healthy balance, proportionally distributed between managing key threats. Still, the final goal, the ultimate goal is to build national resilience that makes us ready to face any danger, wherever it comes from,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The event took place online on September 30 and focused on the economic aspects of the growing Chinese presence in Eastern Europe and the Chinese toolbox of expanding it through economic activities and investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mat\u011bj \u0160imal\u010d\u00edk, the executive director of the Central European Institute of Asian Studies (CEIAS) based in Slovakia, moderated the discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts representing various countries of Eastern Europe also attended the roundtable as speakers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Jakub Jak\u00f3bowski, a senior fellow with the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW) China Programme based in Poland<\/li><li>Tinatin Khidasheli, chairperson of Georgian thinktank Civic IDEA and former Minister of Defense of Georgia<\/li><li>Jan Famfollet, Economic analyst of the European Values Center for Security Policy<\/li><li>\u0141ukasz Sarek, a researcher and China market analyst writing about China-Europe economic relations with a focus on Poland and CEE<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The most crucial challenges regarding Chinese influence in Ukraine are similar in their nature to those faced by Ukraine\u2019s European partners.
