Mykola Leontovych\u2019s Shchedryk has passed a long way from Ukrainian shchedrivka to the international anthem of Christmas, known as Carol of the Bells. Now, like 100 years ago, this song is also a tool of Ukraine\u2019s cultural diplomacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

100 years ago, Oleksandr Koshyts\u2019 choir presented Shchedryk in different countries of Western Europe. Today, it can be heard everywhere, as a voice of Ukrainian resistance and strong folk tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Oleksandr Koshyts choir\u2019s tour toured in the US in 1922-1923 Schedryk continued to conquer the world. This year, Carol of the Bells was also performed at Carnegie hall, on the 100th anniversary of Shchedryk\u2019s premiere, and now it is also a symbol of Ukraine\u2019s struggle for freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
