The Latin American democratic countries have consistently condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and voted for the relevant UN General Assembly decisions since February 2022. However, they are hesitating to provide Ukraine with practical support, e.g. some Latin American governments refuse to supply Ukraine with necessary weapons, as the U.S. government has been attempting to persuade them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India is also among the countries that take a rather ambiguous position regarding Ukraine.
While calling for peace, India does not condemn Russia\u2019s actions out loud and has not joined or supported the Western sanctions, increasing trade with Russia instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such positions can be explained by various historical, economic and political reasons, for instance, the anti-American position of most Latin American governments may affect their decisions to support Ukraine in its struggle, and the need to provide for the needs of a 1.5 billion population might push India to buy cheap crude oil from Russia.
